To tackle great challenges, schools must overcome the limitations of traditional ways of solving problems, invent new strategies that are appropriate for a given situation, and most importantly, synthesize ideas into quality action. The skills employed by those with design training are ideally suited for this endeavor.
Design is the synthesis of creativity (imagining new things) and innovation (bringing those things into existence). It is both process and artifact. The goal of design is to make complicated problems intuitive. And the heart of the work is always the same: to help people connect with people through effective communication.
